Congratulations to the Hicksville Middle School Mock Trial Team under the supervision of Ms. Dowling-Lewis and Mr. Branigan, who competed at the Western Suffolk BOCES Mock Trial Tournament at Suffolk Community College in Selden NY on Friday, April 21, 2017. Twenty-seven districts from Long island competed in this prestigious tournament.
April is National Poetry Month. To celebrate Mrs. Lasurdo, the middle school librarian, facilitated the 2nd Annual Book Spine Poetry Contest. Twenty-two students participated in the event. Students and teachers worked together to create poems, using the titles on the spine for the lines of their poems.
After school Regents Review Classes for Algebra I and Living Environment begin on Monday April 3rd through Monday, June 12th. Classes are available Monday through Friday. Click here for the schedule of dates and the list of teachers, room locations and the topics that will be covered.
Seven Hicksville Middle School students were chosen to receive Kiwanis Club Youth Awards. Katie, Andrew, Guillermo, Ariana, Saamir, Gina, and Mateo were nominated by their teachers and their guidance counselor for their achievements in academics and physical education.
Hicksville Middle School Student Council officers, Alejandro, President, Roman, Vice President, Arya, Secretary, Julia, Treasurer, and Jasmine, Sixth Grade Liaison, along with their advisors Mrs. Fitzgerald and Mrs. Presti presented a check for $500.00 to a representative from Island Harvest.
Hicksville Middle School Student Council officers, Alejandro, President, Roman, Vice President, Arya, Secretary, Julia, Treasurer, and Jasmine, Sixth Grade Liaison, along with their advisors Mrs. Fitzgerald and Mrs. Presti, visited the food pantry at the United Methodist Church in Hicksville to deliver over 20 boxes of donated food.
Hicksville Middle School students and staff celebrated their spirit by participating in special activities throughout the day. Based on their Home Base Advisories, students were assigned to the Blue, Red, and Green teams. Thanks to the planning efforts of Mr. Stueber, Ms. Klimuszko, Mr. Essigman, and Ms. Mastrantonio, students engaged in a wide variety of well organized and fun events. Spirit Day was a great way to end the year and celebrate the anticipation of 2017.
Ms. Hoover's and Ms. Giovagnoni's Home Base advisory groups created duct tape flower pens and Valentine's Day cards for veterans. Two baskets of hand-made pens and cards were delivered to a VA home on Valentine's Day and were very well received by the veterans.
This year Mr. Tussie conducted his annual "Walk for a Cause" event to support ACDS - the Association for Children with Down Syndrome. The event also served to unite the school community and to bring awareness to Down Syndrome. Hicksville Middle School staff and students participated in the walk and raised $1000.00 for ACDS.
Students attended the “Have Fun for a Cause Recreation Night and Dance” on Friday, January 13th. Students had a fun time playing games like ping pong, nok hockey, arcade and nerf basketball, beach ball volleyball, bowling, bean bag toss, checkers, chess, and Connect Four.
2017-2018 Pre-K Lottery
Hicksville Public Schools will be offering, along with SCOPE, its own limited Pre-Kindergarten Program for the 2016-2017 school year. The district option will be lottery-based requiring completion of an application. The District Pre-Kindergarten Program will be housed at Dutch Lane School.

The 2017-2018 Instructional Calendar was approved by the Board of Education at their regular meeting on January 25, 2017.
