DUTCH LANE NEWS & HEADLINES

  • Autism Awareness Walk

The Dutch Lane School community welcomed our first, and hopefully annual, Dutch Lane School Autism Awareness Walk. The members of our Autism Ambassadors Club, a group of students who meets weekly during our A.M. Academy, have the desire to learn about what life is like for people living with autism, allowing us to be better friends and neighbors. They developed a t-shirt sale and the walk to share what they have learned about autism with our school community. All of the walkers were asked to stop at each sign post, displayed along the walkway, and read about autism. At the end of the walk, students returned to their classrooms and documented what they learned on puzzle pieces now displayed on our main lobby bulletin board. • Fifth Graders "Wonder" Mannequin Challenge

The Dutch Lane fifth graders took the mannequin challenge to a whole new level. After completing the reading of the novel Wonder, in which the theme is "when given the choice between being right and being kind, choose kind," the students created a kindness mannequin challenge. They were given the challenge by their teachers. The students came up with their own groups, their own poses, and they decided that instead of using the mannequin challenge song, they would like to use Natalie Merchant's song " Wonder." It was an amazing experience for everyone involved. We are so proud of our fifth-graders! Please click the link to the left to view the video. We hope you enjoy watching the video.

  • Dutch Lane Pledges for Constitution Day

As part of our celebration of Constitution Day on Sept. 16, Dutch Lane students participated in “Pledge Across America.” The patriotic schoolwide ceremony, designed to teach our students the significance of the words of the Pledge of Allegiance, featured pre-kindergartners planting American flags outside the school and fifth-graders presenting analyses about each of the Pledge’s components. Students recited the Pledge together, and learned about the importance of honoring and celebrating America. Please click on the link for more photos.
